Whether you’re writing for your school newspaper or the New York Times. If you want to write news, you need to know how to write a staple.
1. Collect the news . For a school newspaper, you can use the TV news or other papers, but do not copy it because that would be plagiarism. For a real newspaper like the New York Times, you have to go where the news (if possible) or use any of the available sources.
2. Interview people . The interviews give more life to the article, giving different people different opinions about the news.
3. Do research to find the facts in the news.
4. Write the article . Start with a good introduction that grabs the reader’s attention. Put the most important information at the beginning of the story.
5. Show the article to a friend or your editor. Let them point out the errors, if theres any.
6. Edit the errors that have been found.
7. Read your article again . If you were a reader who gets to see the newspaper, do you call attention to that news? Could the article keep your interest?
8. Submit your completed article to the publisher.
